Now this second part is going to be a little more concerning especially to those who grew up and/or lived through the nineties. I mean, we all heard of Aung Sang Suu Kyi and how she fought for Myanmar's civil rights. All good and stuff and she got a Nobel Peace Prize too.
Of course, all that good will got flushed down the drain when she did not say anything during the violence against the Rohingya. Sure there's a lot of reasons why she might not speak out against the violence but it's sort of like how Trump didn't denounce Neo-nazis and white supremacists: damned by inaction.
And that is really depressing, hence my reluctance to write my thoughts about this. Really? Suu Kyi, you're supposed to be the champion of freedom in Myanmar. That one great person who stood taller than the others. And in the end, you're just as racist and bigoted as everyone else in the world and that is fucking disappointing, to say the least.
Duterte being an asshole does not surprise me. He does it all the time and without shame and without any shred of humanity at all. But Aung Sang Suu Kyi doing a Donald Trump? Fuck. Guess this is why the modern day concept of feminism can be so depressing. Everyone is equal in how shitty they are, regardless of gender, status and past achievements.
